Savory Yogurt Coleslaw

A slightly more sophisticated approach to an all-American side dish.


1/4 cup plain yogurt

2 Tablespoons mayonnaise

2 1/2 Tablespoons cider vinegar

1/2 teaspoon sugar

2 Tablespoons grated yellow onion

1/2 teaspoon celery seeds

Coarse salt and pepper

1/4 of a head of green cabbage, shredded (or sliced very thin)

1/4 of a head of red cabbage, shredded (or sliced very thin)

4 carrots, cut into thin julienne strips



1. Combine the yogurt, mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, onion, celery seeds, salt and pepper in a medium sized bowl, and whisk everything together well to combine.

2. Combine the cabbages and carrots in a large bowl, tossing to combine.

3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture and toss well to combine (you might not need all of the dressing).  Put the coleslaw in the refrigerator to chill and allow the flavors to combine for at least 1 hour.

4. Your Savory Yogurt Coleslaw is ready!  Enjoy with burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, or any other casual food.
