Apron FAQs

What municipalities qualify for "free local delivery"? We offer free delivery to the following towns in New Jersey: Montclair, Upper Montclair, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield, Nutley, Verona, Cedar Grove and East Hanover. At checkout, enter your zip code as the Promo Code, and if you are in one of these towns, shipping charges will be eliminated from your order. We'll contact you to arrange delivery at no charge.

I'm not sure which size I should get for my child? The Small size is recommended for most children aged 9 and under, with a height of 50 inches or less. The Large size is recommended for anyone over 50 inches tall, whether child or adult (in most cases, 10 year-olds and up).

How can the same size apron fit 10 year-olds and adults? Believe it or not, it's mainly all in the neck strap! The neck strap on our Large apron is fully adjustable, so it will fit everyone from grownup men to your standard-issue 10 year-old. However, you should be aware that the Large apron will be a little roomy around the chest of most 10 year-olds. You can get a sense of the fit from the photographs on these pages: the children shown wearing the Large size on this website are all 10 or 11 years old, and 51-54 inches tall. These aprons are built to last, and we think you'll love the fact that your bigger child won't grow out of it. But if you think the fit won't be snug enough, we understand these may not be the aprons for you this time around!

Can I choose what color my name should be? No, we can only offer the colors shown at this time. (We promise, they're beautiful!)

How much extra time will it take to personalize my apron? Please allow 7 additional days for personalization.

What if I'm not happy with my apron? Return it for a replacement or a full refund, your choice! We've worked really hard to create these aprons, and we think you will be as completely thrilled with them as we are. But if for any reason you're not, we'll do everything in our power to fix it, no matter what. Guaranteed.

What are the washing instructions? "Machine wash warm. Tumble dry low. Do not bleach. Do not iron." (Not that they need it. Who irons an apron?) We usually pre-treat any any major splotches before throwing them into the washer.

Why is there a double-backing on the embroidery? Some embroidered fabrics have a single, thin, tear-away backing, but the backing on ours is sturdier because it's (usually!) worn over clothing and we want you to get years use out of it.

Why are you donating 10% of your profits? Well, when you own your own business, you can do whatever you want! We want Adventure Kitchen to not only be a resource for curious cooks like us to explore the world around them, but also a force for good in our community. We think the world has enough for everyone as long as we share, so we're sharing!

What "food-related causes" do you donate to? "Food-related causes" can include things like environmental/farm sustainability, child nutrition, clean water initiatives, and hunger relief. In 2016, all of our donations are going to local hunger-relief organizations that have been serving needy folks right here in our town for decades. Toni's Kitchen is a soup-kitchen operating out of a local Episcopal church, serving meals with dignity to hungry folks. The Human Needs Food Pantry is another local group, which provides food, clothing, and other services to people in need in our area. At the end of the year, we'll share information about all these contributions with Adventure Kitchen followers via email and social media. (Feel free to follow us here or here if you want to get notified.) And in the meantime, thank you!

What does "responsibly made in the USA" mean? Glad you asked! In the Adventure Kitchen, our food is made with LOVE, and we think aprons should be, too! So we went out of our way to find sources for our aprons that pay fair wages and have safe working conditions.

Our supplier uses American-made fabric to create these beautiful, sturdy aprons at fair wages in safe working conditions here in the USA. (Sadly, this is actually not the case for all American-made products.) From our supplier: "We dig deep to ensure everything we offer passes ethical standards and that no one is getting ethically 'finished' products with sweatshop-made components. We are trying to help create transparency and ethical practices from front to end of the entire production chain, and [we] stay away from suppliers we aren't 100% sure about."

So, do you have a problem with aprons made in other countries? Heck no! Adventure Kitchen is all about exploring the whole, wide world in all its glorious diversity. For this design, we wanted sturdy, white aprons for children and adults, and it just so happened that the only fair-trade source we could find at this time is right here in the USA (which is great!). We do have lots of ideas for future projects, though, some of which will most certainly be sourced outside the US. If you have a source for fairly-made products you think Adventure Kitchen might be interested in supporting, wherever in the world it may be, use the envelope icon at the top of the site to get in touch and let us know!
