10% to Charity
Lynley Jones
Ever since we first launched our spice business back in late 2017, we’ve been committed to donating 10% of profits to food-related charities.
Why we do this:
Food connects us all, and nourishing one another is one of the kindest and most important things we human beings do for each other. In our business, we have the honor of being a small part of a vast system that feeds every person on earth.
But food and water aren’t equally accessible to everyone. Some folks can afford to spend discretionary income on the fanciest, rarest and healthiest foods, while others struggle simply to have anything safe to eat or drink on any given day.
And as hunger experts point out, this isn’t because there isn’t enough food or water to go around. There is.
It’s because people in power don’t prioritize making it available to everyone. And sometimes they even wield access to it as a weapon.
So this is where we come in:
One of our business values is "We take pride in our footprints." This acknowledges two important things:
First, we don't get to pretend we don't have an impact on the people around us. We’re all connected, and everything we do leaves a mark. We’re all part a system, and our choices as individuals, and as a business, affect others.
So second - at Adventure Kitchen, we choose to be intentional about crafting that mark, that impact, into a legacy we can be proud of.
Who we give to:
Each year, usually late in the fall, our staff votes to choose the cause we’ll support with our giving from that year’s sales, choosing from options including options such as: hunger relief, clean water, sustainable agriculture, disaster relief and child nutrition/hunger. (FYI, back when we ran a summer camp, our campers would do the voting.)
Why voting? Because there are many causes worthy of our support. And because as things change over time, one cause or another may speak more urgently to us. So each year, this gives us a chance to reconnect with the needs of the people around us and make a choice.
So, what is it this year?
For 2025, the team has chosen hunger relief as the cause for our giving to support.
This means that every purchase through December 31 is helping to grow the amount of our donation. So if you’d like your holiday gift-giving to align with a charitable purpose, I’d love to ask for your support both for our small business and to help us raise money for hunger relief this year. Let’s go!
How to follow along!
In early 2026, I’ll announce the specific organization to receive this year’s donation. Past recipients have included World Central Kitchen, No Child Hungry, Charity Water and Toni’s Kitchen, a local soup kitchen in Montclair, NJ.
As a very small business with limited staff, we haven’t always had the bandwidth to make a big announcement about our giving, or issue press releases like a bigger company would.
But I realize it’s important for this work to be more visible and I’m personally committed to doing a better job spreading the news going forward!
So - if you want to follow along, you can sign up for our newsletter to get updates on our business, including our giving. And if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to email us at hello@adventurekitchen.com and we’ll get right back to you.
Thank you!
