Our 2019 Donation: No Kid Hungry

Lynley Jones

Hello Adventure Kitchen friends!

We are thrilled to announce that our donation from 2019 sales will go to:

No Kid Hungry!

No Kid Hungry is a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, dedicated to making sure “every single child in America has the food they need to grow up healthy and strong.”

About No Kid Hungry

The mission of No Kid Hungry is to make sure “every single child in America has the food they need to grow up healthy and strong.”

Believe it or not, this is not always the case. More than 11 million kids in this country are growing up in food insecure homes. This means that 1 in 7 kids in this country are growing up in homes where there’s not enough food to go around. And in some states, that number is even larger: in my home state of Arizona, fully 24% - nearly 1 in 4 kids - live in homes without enough food. Sadly, this is the case in far too many places in the US. (You can use the tool on this page to find out the number for your state.)

As No Kid Hungry says on their website, “there is no possible excuse for children to go hungry in this country. Yet it happens - every day, in every community.”

This is not because there isn’t enough food to go around. And it’s not because no one knows how to help these kids. In fact, as No Kid Hungry says, “We have plenty of food in the United States. And we have child nutrition programs that work. The problem is that not enough kids are able to access them."

This is where No Kid Hungry steps in. They work with educators and lawmakers to implement and improve programs like school breakfasts, summer lunches, after-school meals and nutrition education for families. These are programs that work, and No Kid Hungry works to make sure more kids have access to them.

About Adventure Kitchen Giving:

The tops of the spice jars at our Montclair pop-up spice shop at 26 S. Park St. downtown (inside the Artisans Gallery through April 2020). The labels on the lids tell customers about our giving.

We give 10% of the profits from Adventure Kitchen products to food-related charities each year. The specific cause supported by each year’s sales is chosen by a vote of the kids in our summer camp.

Each year, our campers choose between hunger relief, clean water, disaster relief, child hunger, sustainable agriculture and economic development.

This year’s campers chose child hunger as the cause for us to support. So we decided No Kid Hungry would be the recipient, and we’re thrilled to support their important work.

Go here to read about our 2018 giving.

Separately, we also hold a Bake Sale for Hunger Relief every year in our town, to benefit a local soup kitchen. Go here to read about our most recent Bake Sale.

So now, curious cook:

Let's do this!

When you purchase any Adventure Kitchen-branded products in our shop, 10% of profits always go to a food-related cause.

And no matter what the campers choose each year, you can be sure that your purchase from Adventure Kitchen is supporting an important cause. You can follow us herehere or here to get notified when we announce each year’s recipient. And in the meantime, thank you for doing your part!
