About this class:
Escovitch fish is a classic Jamaican dish, eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s fried snapper with the tang of vinegar and crunchy vegetables, all in a lush sauce spiked with garlic and the heat of Scotch bonnet peppers.
What makes this dish special is the combination of flavors and textures, the colors of the lightly-cooked veggies and the depth of flavor, mingling together.
Join guest chef Chanice Fish, chef/owner of Taste of the Caribbean in Newark, NJ, for a livestream class where you’ll embrace this beloved Jamaican dish. Along with escovitch fish, you’ll also make Jamaican bammy, a classic cassava flatbread soaked in coconut milk and served alongside.
Chanice will show you how to serve the snapper with vegetables and escavitch sauce, with bammy on the side. This is a class for anyone who loves the flavors and culture of Jamaica, a cuisine of bold, lively flavors, contrasting textures, warmth and generosity.
About Chanice: As chef/owner of Taste of the Caribbean in Newark, NJ, Chanice’s vision is to create a destination where everyone can gather for the best food and hospitality from the Caribbean, served along with her deep passion and knowledge of the region’s cultures and cuisines. Opened in 2025, Taste of the Caribbean isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a bold and unforgettable space filled with tropical murals, maps and other details that evoke and celebrate the Caribbean. It’s a place where people can gather, connect and experience regional cuisine made with love and creativity.
