Sugar Glaze for Cookies

A simple glaze for lovely and delicious cookies.

Makes about 1 cup, plenty for one batch of cookies.

Ingredients

1 cup powdered sugar

About 4 Tablespoons milk or cream, plus a little more if needed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract, lemon juice or other flavoring if desired

Food coloring if desired

Instructions

1. Sift the powdered sugar if necessary (if it has many hard lumps) into a medium-sized bowl.

2. Whisk in half of the milk or cream, then add the vanilla extract or other flavoring.  Whisk in the rest of the milk or cream. When finished, the consistency should be a thin paste. Add a bit more milk or cream to achieve this consistency if needed.

3. Add the food coloring if desired; or, if you would like multiple colors, first divide the glaze into smaller bowls, then color each of them as you like.

4. Your Sugar Glaze is ready! Spoon, brush or drizzle it onto your cookies to achieve the desired affect.

Note: this can get messy! One way to manage the mess is to glaze the cookies on a rack positioned over a plate or wide bowl. As you glaze them, allow the extra glaze to fall into the bowl or plate. You can do this in batches and reuse the glaze that falls into the bowl or plate. Extra glaze will keep, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Have fun!
