Slice, Dice & Chop: Knife Skills Class
Make cooking faster and easier by learning to use a kitchen knife like a pro!
New recipes and fun each week, for adults and kids entering 6th grade and up.
Classes take place in the spacious commercial kitchen at Toni's Kitchen and culminate in a volunteer shift - where you'll get to show off your new skills for a good cause!
Busy? Not to worry! Volunteer shift to be scheduled at your convenience.
Here's What you'll learn:
Week 1 - Slicing, knife care and safety, including sharpening and cleaning; with recipes
Week 2 - Dicing, mirepoix and much more, with recipes
Week 3 - Chopping: when rough is right; choosing, storing, stemming and prepping herbs, veggies and more, with recipes
Week 4 - Chiffonade, shaving, shredding and zesting, with recipes
Traveling? Need to miss a class? No problem! The final class is our review and makeup session, where we'll cover anything you might have missed.
Week 5 - Oddball items: avocados, mangoes, melons and more, with recipes
Week 6 - Makeup, questions and review; test, certificates and celebration!
We will make knives available in class for those who do not have their own, but participants are strongly encouraged to purchase their own 8" Chef's knife for use at home! You may purchase a knife through us at no markup - you pay what we pay. Interested? Let us know when you register and we'll be in touch.
*Toni's Kitchen is a ministry of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Montclair, and has been serving the hungry in our community since 1982. We will be using their spacious commercial kitchen for this class. Visit their website at http://tk.slechurch.org/ for more information.
